Mero Macho supplement has been recalled. An FDA test found that Mero Macho Artificial Passion Fruit Flavored Vitamin C Liquid Supplement had Tadalafil, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.  By having Tadalafil as an ingredient, the product is now an unapproved drug which has not been tested for safety or to see if it actually works.  This is why it’s subject to recall.

Fitoterapia USA is voluntarily recalling 19,000 bottles of the product.

How Mero Macho could adversely affect your health

Erectile dysfunction could have underlying diseases such as diabetes or hypertension.  The FDA or the company has not received any reports of adverse reactions related to the recall. Tadalafil is a phosphodiesterase 5- inhibitor.  Some consumers who have diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol or heart disease are often prescribed nitrates which when taken with Tadalafil can lead to cardiovascular collapse.

Product Details

The Mero Macho product is marketed as a sexual enhancement supplement. The affected product lots include Lot: ZD-160-18 EXP: 09-07-2019, Lot: ZD-078-19 EXP: 27-04-2020, Lot: ZD-159-17 EXP: 31-05-2018.

Mero Macho was distributed to stores and sold through the internet all over the country since April, 2019.

Fitoterapia is in the process of notifying distributors and customers and arranging for return of the recalled product. Consumers should stop using it and return it.  Their website is currently down, but was active during the initial recall announcement.

Dr. Cindy’s note:

“It’s not that we doctors are against “natural” supplements, it’s that no one is checking these supplements and you just end up getting unregulated doses of hidden prescription medicine.”- Dr. Cindy
